In Units 21–23 we looked at will, shall, and going to. In this unit we study two more future forms: the future continuous (will be doing) — for actions in progress at a future moment — and the future perfect (will have done) — for actions completed before a future moment.

Will Be Doing — Future Continuous (In the Middle of an Action)

Will Be Doing — Futur Continu (Au milieu d'une action)

I will be doing something = I will be in the middle of doing it at a certain future moment — the action started before that moment and continues after it.

I will be doing quelque chose = je serai en train de le faire à un certain moment futur.

I'll be lying on the beach. / She won't be working. / Will you be using the car?

Will Be Doing for Complete Future Actions (Similar to Will / Going To)

We also use will be -ing for planned or expected complete actions in the future — similar to will (do) and going to (do).

The government will be making a statement about the crisis later today.
→ a planned future event (similar to: will make / is going to make)

Will Have Done — Future Perfect (Completed Before a Future Time)

Will Have Done — Futur Antérieur (Terminé avant un moment futur)

I will have done something = it will be complete before a time in the future. Often used with by (by then, by the time, by 5 o'clock…).

I will have done quelque chose = ce sera terminé avant un moment dans le futur. Souvent utilisé avec by.

Subject + will have + past participle
She'll have gone to work. / The film will have started. / They will have finished.
Sally always leaves for work at 8.30. At 9 she won't be home — she'll have gone to work.
→ by 9 o'clock, her departure will already be complete
→ à 9h, son départ sera déjà terminé
We're late. The film will already have started by the time we get there.
→ the film starts before we arrive
→ le film commence avant notre arrivée
The meeting starts at 9.30 and won't last more than an hour. It will have finished by 11.
→ before 11 o'clock, the meeting will be over
