Some verbs in English are always followed by the -ing form (gerund), never by to + infinitive. The most common are enjoy, mind and suggest. This unit covers all of them, plus important phrasal verbs and special structures.

Enjoy is one of a set of verbs always followed by the -ing form, not the infinitive. You need to learn the list: enjoy, mind, suggest, stop, finish, avoid, consider, admit, deny, risk, imagine, fancy.

Stop doing = stop an activity: She stopped smoking. (She no longer smokes.) Stop to do = pause in order to do something: She stopped to smoke. (She paused to have a cigarette.) The meaning is completely different!
