→ It is possible and also very likely that the condition will be fulfilled.

Form: if + Simple Present, will-Future

Example: If I find her address, I’ll send her an invitation.

Conditional Sentence Type 2

→ It is possible but very unlikely, that the condition will be fulfilled.

Form: if + Simple Past, Conditional I (= would + Infinitive)

Example: If I found her address, I would send her an invitation.

→ It is impossible that the condition will be fulfilled because it refers to the past.

Form: if + Past Perfect, Conditional II (= would + have + Past Participle)

Example: If I had found her address, I would have sent her an invitation.

Les différents types de conditionnel en anglais :

Le conditionnel type 0 :

Ce type de conditionnel fait référence à une vérité, une habitude ou un fait scientifique.

Pour former un conditionnel de type 0 la règle est simple :

« If + present simple, present simple » le verbe de la phrase principal et le verbe de la subordonnée sont au présent.

Exemple :

if you mix oil with water, the oil floats = si tu mélange l’huile avec de l’eau , l’huile flotte.

Le conditionnel type 1 :

Ce type de conditionnel s’utilise pour parler d’une action ou situation réel qui peut se produire dans le futur, et sa forme et la suivante :

« If + present simple, future simple. »

Exemples :

-If I have any free time , I will meet with you = Si j’ai du temps libre, je te rencontrerai.

-If I see Sandra, I will tell her you are looking for her = Si je vois Sandra, je lui dirai que tu la cherches

Note : on peut commencer par la condition comme on peut commencer par la subordonnée Voici un exemple :

Forme 1 : If you finish your homework, I will buy you an icecream= Si tu finis tes devoirs, je t’achèterai une glace.

Forme 2 : I will buy you an icecream, If you finish your homework = Je t’achèterai une glace, si tu finis tes devoirs.

Le conditionnel type 1 peut être utiliser également pour faire:

Une promesse : If you pass your exam, I will buy you a knew phone = Si tu réussis ton examen, je t’achèterai un nouveau téléphone.

Une menace : If you don’t come to my birthday party, I will never speak to you again = Si tu ne viens pas à ma fête d’anniversaire, je ne te parlerai plus jamais.

Le conditionnel type 02 :

appelé aussi « l’irréel du présent »

La forme : If passé simple + conditionnel présent 

Ce type de conditionnel exprime une hypothèse un peu probable voir impossible, il décrit aussi une situation imaginaire qui n’existe pas dans le présent et n’a que peu de chance d’exister dans le futur.

Exemples : voici donc quelques exemples afin de comprendre le conditionnel type 2

-If I had a million pounds, I would travel all around the world= Si j’avais un million de livres, je ferais le tour du monde.

-If had enough time, I will learn Turkish. = Si j’avais assez de temps, j’apprendrais le turc.

-If I were you, I would never stop my studies = Si j’étais toi, je n’arrêterais jamais mes études.

-If I were the boss, I would raise your wages = Si j’étais le patron, j’augmenterais ton salaire.

On utilise le conditionnel de type 2 pour :

Donner un conseil: If I were you, I would go to paris = Si j’étais toi j’irais à paris.

Imaginer une vie différente : If I lived in America, I would miss my parents a lot. = Si je vivais en Amérique, mes parents me manqueraient beaucoup.

Une situation irréelle : If I were 22, I will travel the world = Si j’avais 22 ans, je ferai le tour du monde.

Le conditionnel type 03 :

La forme : If + past perfect, would have + participe passé.

On utilise ce type de conditionnel pour parler d’une action qui n’est pas arrivée « imaginer le passé autrement ». Les phrases de condition type 3 sont vraiment irréels car il est désormais trop tard pour que la condition se réalise ou existe.

Exemples :

-If I had had any free time, I would have gone to my cousin’s wedding = Si j’avais eu du temps libre, je serais allé au mariage de mon cousin.

-If I had learned more, I would have passed the exam = Si j’avais appris plus, j’aurais réussi l’examen.

Le conditionnel type 3 est utilisé également pour exprimer des regrets

Exemple :

If I had known you were in hospital, I would have visited you = Si j’avais su que tu étais à l’hôpital, je t’aurais rendu visite.

Comme dans les autres phrases du conditionnel, l’ordre des propositions n’est pas fixe :

Exemple :

You would have passed your exam if you had worked harder. = Vous auriez réussi votre examen si vous aviez travaillé plus dur.

I’d have bought you a present if I’d known it was your birthday = Je t’aurais acheté un cadeau si j’avais su que c’était ton anniversaire.

Ce type de conditionnel est un peu spécial, voici ci-dessous sa forme pour mieux comprendre :

If + past perfect , conditionnel présent.

Comme dans les types précédent l’ordre n’est pas fixe.
